I'm sorry, but you need a monk. Maybe you can get by without a tank, or a MM, or a nuker, if your team can make up for the lack in other ways... But self heals are lacking by design, you cannot make up for a dedicated healer in any instance.

That was the point Sod was making... What sounds witty to you, may just annoy the snot out of someone else. No matter how inteligent, humours or informative you think you are. Much like the two sexy Rangers idea...

Fair enough, there just really not for me.

I think you misunderstood, i was merely using the party numbers you attached to them as a reference as i couldn't be arsed to type or copy the whole thing.

IMO, anyone who is "afraid" to depend on henchie monks needs to build better playing skills and self/team confidence. BTW, this line is attractive to monks too. Just the previous day a monk (a pretty good player, and a funny guy too) invited himself after I pulled the line with henchie monks.
|
Do you honestly think your alone? I never said i wait for real monks. I said you don't add the henchies till everyone else is bored. On most occasions waiting for a little while longer gets you a monk. My last trip through THK (i was bored) we got a real monk on my last call for 2 real monks before i take henchies, then i just asked them if they wanted Mhenlo or Lina. And we began (and 1 of the rather weird noob eles left 10 minutes in, but we still owned the bonus ).

No you didn't. But i never mentioned that over my 1st 3 characters that i only had to do it 4 times, my ele (the 3rd char) failed it once and suceeded the 2nd. I was a huge noob at this point, (edit, i mean my ranger here, my first character) i actually did it using armour from Amnoon because i was too cheap and thought the armour would improve. Been as it was around 10 months i don't remember how it went, but i know i lagged ALOT on my warriors trip. After completing Iron Mines and THK bonus' using henchman (stupid not infused hench!) even then i suceeded THK on my 2nd attempt.

Fair enough, imo it wouldn't attract anyone to your team that would make the trip either fun and/or sucessful. But thats just in my opinion.

In most cases you do need specific builds. You can't just advertise for 'Need 2 monks' and hope you get 2 monks who can play the build you make them change to. Plus taking along 2 Healers WILL bring disaster in FoW, a healer can't outheal the damage that Prot Spirit can prevent. But yeah i'll agree with you that for most normal missions you don't really need specific builds. (smiter/prot > Willia )

Thanks for the reminder though. I will "never forget that" some people might not appreciate what I consider intelligent, humorous and informative and those are the very ones I hope I'll never accidentally party up with.

I wasn't intending to be witty But like Snipious said, if i was, it wasn't for you, which is my point. For the record, i have never once said monkzorz ever. I try to keep anything to do with forming groups as clear and sensible as possible. Once i have the party i don't really care what weird things people start to discuss.
Snipious, what do you mean by 'monks' though? As in a dedicated healer or a Mo/x? because the latter is obviously not true, as proved by all mesmer teams clearing 99% of UW (Four Hourseman is practically impossible). But then again, i have actually cleared 95% of UW using only a 55monk, SS/SV Ele nuker and 2 Barrage rangers. Just so you know the hardest parts we actually cleared without the rangers :S Believe me, clearing the entire Chaos Plane of Mindblade Spectres and the Bone Pits of FoC spamming enchantment Rending bastards is....annoying, but a good achievement.

I meant dedicated healer, not neccesarily a monk. And in most given general situations and missions.

Hehe. We got a mutual misunderstanding eh? Since you were referring to the "bonus" call (which was just an example) directly, I couldn't be very clear about the number use. So we're ok there.

Yep, no probs there either.
Sometimes I start henchless groups and if it turns out we'll be unable to find human monks, I ask my teammates if taking henchies is ok, and only then I take them. I know I said I kick those who refuse but that is an exaggeration. If somebody says "I'd be much comfy if we took real monks", then I know that is a reasonable person and I'm ok with waiting for a few more minutes. If somebody says "WTF you noob take real monks", well, that's when I get boot-happy.
However, sometimes I just go ahead and take the hench monks before inviting anybody else and call LFP, clearly stating I am intending to use henchies. So, anyone who invite themselves are doing so of their own volition.

Ya, ok agreed there. I was meaning to say a human monk is not sine qua non. (I have a silly habit of not referring the monk henchies as just "monks") My point was that monk henchies are adequate for all missions and quests.
As an aside, surely I'm not talking about Fow or UW, but you don't go to those places as a general ranger anyway. You're b/p, trapper or some other specialized ranger there so joining PUGs for FoW and UW are much more easier than getting an invite for, say, Sanctum Cay
